Post 1. Most important thing to learn in English Composition I

I believe that the most important thing that we can continue to learn, here in English Composition 1, is learning to become more and more competent at 'effectively communicating with others through writing'.

This objective encompasses:
- Learning how to read and interpret documents written by varying writers
- Learning how to write effectively and appropriately to varying audiences

I believe that 'effectively communicating with others through writing' as a whole is the most important aspect of this class and will further reinforce students' written literacy and communication skills in order to interact well with others. It is not the most specific learning objective, but it is the most essential big-picture mission that everyone involved in this class must acknowledge and keep in mind when moving forward.

Being able to communicate and interact through writing is essential to achieving almost any goal in life, and certainly is essential for doing well in college!

Even Professor Hamon's introductory video as well as the brief ENGl1101 course description for English Composition 1 made it clear that being able to competently learn and communicate through writing was the overall focus and mission of the class.

Being able to 'effectively communicating with others through writing' will help you:
- Write a spectacular resume and personal statement help land you a job
- Communicate with potential business partners, employers, investors, etc
- Write a fantastic scholarship essay or college application to get you into MGA:)
And many, many more scenarios where writing communication will have your back!

At the end of the day, we all know that we need to be able to communicate well with others through writing in order to achieve what we want, and in this class we need to appreciate this indispensable skill set that we are building.

It is a fantastic skill set that will be the catalyst to our future success

Thank you classmates and all the best!!

  1. Wow. I'm not sure I can teach all that in 8 weeks, but I'll bet some of you can learn all that.

  2. In the future, please number your posts so that I can tell more quickly what I'm supposed to be reading. For example: "Post 1: Most important thing to learn in English Composition 1" should be the title of this post. You can still fix it. Thanks.
